A Little Bit Of Everything (and the basement refresh!)

Oh, my! Pretty sure this is the longest I’ve ever gone without blogging! 2019 arrived, and I hit the ground running with what projects I want to tackle this year. Friends, I’ve got a post coming tomorrow giving you all the details on my upcoming basement bathroom renovation, but before that comes, I just wanted to take the opportunity to catch up a bit! Wanted to share a few photos from things that I took part in towards the end of 2018 before I get started on showing you what’s to come in 2019. Most bloggers did their 2018 recap the first week of January. Lol. I’m not most bloggers, apparently!

I never got around to recapping my trip to NYC this past September for the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker event! That is always my favorite trip of the year! (You can read about last year’s by clicking HERE). It’s a one day event surrounded by fellow creatives, hearing from amazing entrepreneurs in the industry, eating yummy food, and mingling with the editors of this publication that I love so much. Here’s a few photos from that trip! Thank you to David Keith Photography! Love that he’s always there to capture the fun!

What I wore…

November was actually the craziest month of the year! I turned 40 on November 2nd…

What I wore…

Attended the wedding reception of Brian Patrick Flynn in Atlanta… wait, what? This was the best night ever! So much fun!

And then I flew to Dallas and Los Angeles the following two weekends to design events for Lincoln. This was a very cool, out-of-the-box experience for me. I was asked to design the table scapes and a lounge area based on the interior and exterior of the Lincoln Nautilus, and then speak about the design at these events. So fun!

Shop the centerpieces…

And after the holidays, I met my husband in Vegas, since he was there for a work trip! Super fun!

What I wore…

I started the new year like most people do… itching to get organized. I tackled quite a bit of the basement and finally created an area down there cozy enough for friends to hang (be it our kids’ friends or our own). I talked a bit about this in my Instagram stories and saved it in my highlights under “Authenticity.” I explained how everything I used in this space is remnants of my past style. People often ask me what I do with home decor items and furniture when my style changes and I switch things up. Well, the majority of it was hap-hazardly thrown in the basement storage room. It feels so good to repurpose things I own! The only thing new that we bought is a new tv and a stand to go with it. Here’s my take on the changing of styles and keeping up with the latest trends…

I don’t ever want to say my basement refresh is filled with leftover “scraps” and have someone be offended because they may like the stuff that’s down there. Just because taste evolves, doesn’t mean it’s better than it used to be. It just means it’s different than it used to be. So you don’t have to feel the need to keep up with changing trends you see bloggers showcasing. Our job is to constantly provide new/fresh content, so we need to always be switching things up! So what you see in my basement may not necessarily be my style anymore, but it was at some point, so I still love what I see. Brings back memories. I regret not taking photos of this space in our basement before we cleared it out and made it cozy, but just picture mismatched/dirty old furniture, a rug with slime stains, and a projector with a million cords hanging from it. Lol. Here’s the after

Shop the basement…

Ok, so there’s the recap! I think you’re officially up to date! Now don’t forget to come back tomorrow, because now that this basement has a nice place for guests to hang, it’s time to renovate the bathroom down there! Slightly terrified to show you photos of the basement bathroom in its current state, but VERY excited to show you the plans!!! It’s gonna be a fun one, folks! See you tomorrow!

Cheers,

Haneen
