We Added a Wall To Our Bedroom!

I can’t believe we waited so long to do this! We’ve lived in this house for 16 years. With four kids and four bedrooms, we’ve had kids share rooms or we’ve played musical bedrooms, and sometimes our youngest would sleep on a mattress in the large sitting room area of our primary bedroom. Well, years ago I thought about turning that sitting room into a fifth bedroom, and we finally did it! We added a wall and a new doorway to the hallway, and this 11×11 ft square is now our son’s bedroom. Here’s where we started:

This is the bedroom we created on the other side of this wall:

I can’t tell you how happy this makes me! To see Zane have his own space is just so fun. He’s 12, and I’m excited to see how he makes it his own through his teen years. For now, it was time to get to work on the other side of this wall- the new wall that went up, meant a new wall to decorate in our primary bedroom!

I love a blank slate! I turned to Williams Sonoma to finish this wall, and I’m SO pleased with how it turned out!

Whoever said not to have a tv in your bedroom is nuts. This is my FAVORITE new thing!! We’ve never watched tv in our bedroom before because we never had a good spot for it, since the wall opposite our bed was SO far away. Not to sound dramatic, but this has been life changing. Lol! How amazing to watch tv in a comfy bed, side by side. It’s been so fun! The Lewis dresser was such a great choice. The nutmeg color, the fluted design on the drawer fronts, the storage- I love it all! And the drawers are soft-close, as well- such good quality!

I love an asymmetrical, cascading gallery wall. I did the same thing at the Detroit Show House bedroom I designed in 2020. Williams Sonoma has such a great art selection (I’ve linked everything at the bottom of this post), and they also have beautiful frames to choose from! I went with these frames to hold some photos I took in Italy.

Let’s talk scale! This faux tree is a whopping nine feet tall! It hits the ceiling and I love it! It’s such a vibe. The planter is crafted from all-weather wicker- so it’s indoor/outdoor. Fabulous! And the grid, pleated drapes makes the space a little more interesting by bringing in some pattern.

I also really love the new Louise table lamps. Their height is adjustable which makes them so versatile!

Can you believe just a few months ago this didn’t even exist? We’re thrilled with how everything came together, and Zane is thrilled with his new room too:)
