Friends! I want to start by saying this… this is not your typical “before and after.” I loved our family room! It was already lovely, but this is the perfect example of taking a room up a notch. A room doesn’t have to be “bad” in order to want to give it a refresh, and this is a great way to see how small changes can really elevate a space!
Before…

So, we LOVE our main pieces. The sectional and arch bookcases were definitely staying. We decided to move the green swivel chairs and coffee table to the basement (stay tuned for that reveal! I’ve been working on it for months!). Can you spot everything we changed, below? …
After…

Subtle changes, big difference! For starters, we decided to add beams! I’ve used beams in several rooms in our home, and I love the warmth and charm it adds, so I couldn’t resist putting them in our family room too. These beams are from Novo Building Products. They already come slightly distressed, and I stained them with a dark walnut water-based stain. Our carpenter was super complimentary of them- said they were an easy install. I will say this though!! I tried to keep it simple by only doing two rows, but I love them too much to stop. Lol. Here’s what I’ve decided… I asked our contractor to come back and install two more rows in the opposite direction, creating a grid of sorts for a coffered look. I’m SO excited for this! I think it’ll be a nice way to make the beams look different than the other rooms I use them in.

New swivel chairs from Rejuvenation!!! These are SO comfortable. And going with this warm brown velvet really changed the direction of the space, because once I introduced a brown, I needed to changed the black plaid rug.

This is the Tahj rug from Lulu & Georgia, and the colors are earthy and gorgeous! Looks great with the chairs!

This three tiered nesting coffee table from Rejuvenation is SO good! Super fun to style, and we really love that they can pull apart because sometimes we drag the tallest one over to eat on:) Seriously so practical! Also, having these three round tables was more conducive to the space- more room to walk around!

The coziest and prettiest pillows! The blue William Morris print pillow and camel velvet pillow are both from Rejuvenation.

Our new mirror is such a cool shape and fits in our fireplace moulding perfectly. And can we talk about art for a moment? The old man is a thrifted painting, but this horse print is from Rejuvenation, as well! They have a great selection of special pieces. I also found this fab lady and I love the unexpected location…

The quality is gorgeous! I can’t find it on their site right now, but here’s a link to their other portraits!
Also, the drapes! These gorgeous tapestry drapes are from Lulu & Georgia and they’re so dreamy!

Okayyyy, can we talk about this light???!! It’s the Elodie light from Shades of Light. I love the glimmer it adds in the room. A touch of glam without being fussy because I’ve paired it with the rustic beams. I love a good juxtaposition! And the glass bulbs are a subtle amber color which really makes it just so warm and cozy in here. The only thing that would make it better was if it was even bigger. I love over-sized lighting. This has a 31″ diameter, which is a perfectly fine size for a room of this scale. I’m just weird and I like lights that people may think are too big for a space. Lol.

On this side of the room, we’ve got the beautiful new Mapleton lamps from Rejuvenation. What I love about these is their slim silhouette. They’re sleek and skinny with a small shade, so they don’t get in the way of the tv. And they’re adjustable! They go shorter, but I love them at their highest height. Such a statement! They’re also dimmable which I think is a must.`

And here’s a peek at the new semi-flush mounts my husband installed in the hallway leading to the family room. We got the 24″, but it comes in up to 40″ which would look incredible in a room! Here’s a better look at it with an image on Rejuvenation’s site…

One last thing that arrived a little late…

Do you spot the floor lamp? I cannot believe what this does to the space! The light from a lamp is like nothing else, and the scalloped shape of the shade with the tight pleating is so gorgeous!

And there you have it! Small changes= big impact! It’s so lovely in here! I’ll report back when we have the rest of the beams installed:) In the meantime, for a real treat, here’s the room ten years ago! Now this is a before and after! Lol

Shop the room…
Cheers,

The room was lovely before but it is spectacular now! Very warm and inviting. Calling it a refresh is a bit of a stretch though . A major decor change with so many new (and expensive) purchases is not like buying a new rug and a few accessories to spruce things up bit. A gorgeous outcome!
Thank you so much! You’ve got a point, but I guess I was thinking in the grand scheme of things I would consider it a refresh because we didn’t change the main pieces (sectional, bookcases, media console) and paint color didn’t change. But yes! Adding beams and swapping the main light fixture and changing things like the rug, chairs, and coffee table is bigger than a refresh! Is there a word bigger than refresh and smaller than makeover? Lol!
Perhaps the words Glow Up? Somewhere between makeover and refresh. How bout family room 2.0? I actually never understood what that meant 😂 but I hear it bantered about. It was a great before room, then you sent it to “finishing school” and now it’s polished.
Beautiful refresh, although I think you mean “peek” not “peak”.:)
Ha! Thank you!! Finished this late last night. Lol. Fixing that now!
Wait, I just went to fix and can’t find where I used that word. Lol! Was that on IG? Probably in stories. Oh well!
The link for the chandelier takes you to the link for the print
Thank you so much for pointing that out! I just updated it:)
This is wonderful. GREAT additions. I’ve been watching Wolf Hall lately and your room gives off those majestic qualities of high style but in a modern way. Love the vibe.
