My oldest just started her third year of college, and it’s her first time in a house with her own bedroom! Freshman year she lived in the dorm with a roommate, sophomore year she lived in her sorority house and had two roommates, and this year she’s renting a duplex with friends on both sides. So fun!
Since she’s got a room all to herself this year, I knew just who to reach out to for help! Wayfair is a great online retailer with all the essentials you need for designing spaces in your home. And they actually just launched a FREE tool on their website called Decorify. Friends, you simply upload an image of a room you want to redesign, and with the click of a button, Decorify shows you design options for your space! And you can choose different design styles… Boho, Farmhouse, Coastal, Glam, Traditional, Midcentury Modern, etc. It’s pretty incredible, and when you’re happy with what they’ve come up with, they offer direct links to shoppable items to easily add to your cart. Redecorating has never been easier! Check out what they did to my living room as an example:

So cool, right? You slide the tool back and forth to see the full space.

For now, they offer this tool for living rooms only, so I went ahead and designed my daughter’s bedroom on my own, and found amazing pieces on their site! It’s a teeny tiny 9×10 ft space, so we tried our best to optimize the space! Here’s the plan I came up with:

Before…

God bless the fluorescent lighting. My goodness! Lol! We didn’t have access to changing it, so I added pretty task lighting and it sure is dreamy…
After…

Before…

Before I get to the “after” of this angle, I need to draw your attention to this awkward 3 ft. nook/hallway in her room. This door remains permanently locked and no one goes in or out of it. It’s an odd waste of space, so I decided to find a way to make it useful! Since the room is too tight for any sort of dresser, I found this amazing bookcase with three bottom drawers. To start, I put an extension rod up and pretty pink drapes to block what was back there…

After…

I’m obsessed with this corner! We really made something special out of nothing. Great storage, and a spot for some cute items. She’ll add more things with time, I’m sure:) The gold floor length mirror is such a feminine touch! Another piece I love that we added to this corner is this ottoman...

We initially chose it to be the seat at her vanity desk, but it was a bit of a tight squeeze, so she thought she’d prop it here as something for guests to sit on and can easily be moved out of the way to access the drawers. And it’s a storage ottoman! The top comes off- total bonus!

How cute are these sheets? She wanted a delicate floral pattern, and these green satin pillow cases were a nice touch!

A few things to address in this photo! For starters, this nightstand is stylish and affordable! She really wanted something with caning. She also wanted a nightstand that was open down below for the speaker she got for her birthday:) Also, this lamp is the perfect size and gives off the perfect light (to cancel out the awful ceiling light! Lol!) And can we talk about this amazing BED?! I love the curve of it! (Side note: shout out to my husband who landed home on a flight from Korea and drove over an hour to meet us and help put everything together! 13 hour time difference is no joke! #superdad)

Want to make a small room look bigger? I’m telling you… taking drapes almost to the ceiling will do the trick! It’s so dramatic and pretty! Initially, I was going to use the same pink drapes we used behind the bookcase, but she didn’t want the room to start leaning too girly, so we ended up going for these ivory ones. SO pretty!
Here’s a look at the vanity in place on the other side of the room. Because of the size of the room, she essentially has to sit on her bed to be sitting at her vanity. Lol! But it works for now! She loved the reeded arch detail and the fact that the mirror lights up!

Here’s to a great school year in a beautiful space!
