Welcome to the Summer Home Showcase hosted by my seriously talented friend, Kelley Nan! Thank you so much for hosting, Kelley! If you’re visiting from The House of Silver Lining, I’m so glad you’re here! This group of ladies is truly remarkable. Please take some time today to browse through their blogs! The links to all of them are in a list at the bottom of this post. To see my Summer Home Tour #1, please click HERE.
In my first tour, I welcomed you through my front door, today I’ll take you through the back!
One reason I get so excited for warmer months to arrive, is because this nook can look this clean! Bulky coats, scarves, and boots are put in storage and I can finally see this cuteness is all of its glory. This entrance is coming in from the garage. It was originally a closet, but with four kids it was a crowded mess getting out the door every day. I’ve dreamed of having a mudroom for forever, but it’s not quite in the budget right now, so we took off the doors, painted some stripes, hung some hooks, and found a bench with storage to tuck in there. It’s no mudroom, but it’s a little more conducive to our young family. A small closet in a tight hallway made it hard to find things and someone was always in someone’s else’s way. Hooray for inexpensive, temporary solutions!
Reason #2 I’m pumped for summer? This outdoor space…
How cool are these funky chairs? Found them at At Home. Table is on clearance right now online at Target. I wish it was a little bigger. I’m considering getting a second one to sit side-by-side.
My husband and I love to entertain, and this back patio has seen its share of fun on some cool summer nights! Whether it’s sharing a drink with neighbors, or hanging here while we watch the kids play outside, it’s just an awesome space! The sectional from Joss & Main has been great! All pillows are from At Home, with the exception of the Michigan pillow- that’s from So Vintage Chic on Etsy. Love it!
Now, if you didn’t catch my DIY tutorial of my recent reclaimed wood wall project I did from Stikwood, you can find that HERE. I shared some photos of the family room on that blog post, but here are some more in case you missed it!
Nothing says “summer” like sunflowers!
A pic of this corner from last week’s tour, since I’m loving my new console table:)
To read about the styling of this mantel and my thoughts behind decorating with thrifted books, click HERE. Mirror is from Painted Fox. There’s a link to the site on the home page of my blog. Art is from Minted. That site is my newest obsession! Trying to decide on another piece of Minted art to go between these two lamps. I want something big!
A few thoughts as the completion of this room nears… I knew I wanted neutral with pops of color through out. Initially, I was drawn to just shades of green, then I found this fabulous 8×10 indigo rug to layer underneath the faux cowhide, and suddenly blues started creeping into the room. I loved the blue/green combo, but something was missing! I was strolling through Hobby Lobby recently and was so drawn to this hot pink bowl, and it was on clearance for under $3! …
It was the perfect storage solution for remotes (I’m not really a fan of having them out but sometimes practical is the way to go, and it’s nice having them easily accessible). Suddenly, I realized what was missing was a fun color on the opposite side of the color wheel. The blues and greens were beautiful, but I realized I needed a warm color mixed in the with cool. As soon as I added this bowl and some fun pink pillows on the green chairs, I stepped back and felt content. It’s funny what small things can make a room finally feel complete. The great thing about this is, it’s fun for summer, but come fall it can be swapped out for autumnal tones, and come Christmas, cozy reds can feel at home here too.
