One Room Challenge Spring 2020: Living Room Week 2

Hello, friends! We’ve entered week number two of the spring One Room Challenge! Let me give you the run down of what was accomplished this past week..

For starters, we cleared out the room and started prepping for paint. As a reminder, this is the “before…”

People often ask where we move things when we’ve decided to no longer use them in a room. The first thing I aways do is see where they can be of use somewhere else in the house. I’m happy to say this gorgeous console was moved to my oldest daughter’s bedroom to use as a dresser! I know there’s doors instead of drawers, but I put baskets on the interior shelves for things like undergarments and socks, and the other shelves have folded clothing just like drawers would hold, except better because you can see what’s in the entire pile. It works! And I just installed white faux brick wallpaper in her room, so this wood piece really warms it up. Stay tuned for that little refresh.

We also moved one of the blue velvet chairs up to my ten year old daughter’s bedroom- perfect little spot for reading. Looks great! 🙂

If you recall, I actually tried it in this room last spring for a photoshoot with Detroit Home Magazine.

The rug got tossed because our dog tore a big hole in it, and I’ve got a few spots in mind to move the art. So here it is in its current state:

Gibson, always there to help;)

Clearly, I was never afraid to put holes in my walls! You guys, this is embarrassing. Lol! And yet, I’m also proud of this fact. Just over here trying to encourage you not to wait to hang things, not to worry so darn much about perfect placement, and just GO FOR IT.

Ok, so the walls are prepped and I’m going to start painting. The only other thing that I did this week was officially order the rust chairs. But, they’re different than the ones in the original mood board. If you recall, I initially wanted this beauty

So, here’s what happened. I went to order them, and a couple things turned me away. Number one, they were no longer on sale, and the original price was more than I wanted to spend. Number two, apparently ordering them in this gorgeous rust color made them a special order, which meant they wouldn’t get here in time for the reveal. Now, let me just say, that I’m not designing around a due date. If this was the chair I really wanted, I’d still get them and just reveal the room without them, BUT… I started thinking about how the velvet upholstery goes to the bottom of the legs. Initially, that’s what drew me in. I think it’s a gorgeous design statement. But it’s also where my mom brain kicks in, and I started thinking about the dust bunnies that would accumulate around those legs and I thought, I could find another chair I love. And so I did, for $200 less

Pretty sure I bought the last two, but you can find it HERE.

Still beautiful! And has brass legs! Win, win.

So here’s an updated mood board with these chairs…

Still haven’t decided on the rug yet! You can find the one in this mood board HERE.

That’s it for this week! Let me know what you think of these chairs!

Cheers,

Haneen

I actually like the brass legs better. They give a lighter feel to the chairs. But i love ‘rust’ color on pretty much anything.
