Moving right along, friends! Hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend! The weather is finally amazing in Michigan! Feels so good to finally have sun and warm air outside. So, this week for the One Room Challenge… the rug has arrived! I know last week I questioned getting a second rug to compare, but I actually love the first one that came.

It completely warms up the space, and I love how the colors play off of the furniture. There’s just enough rust to compliment the chairs, and enough gold/beige to have the color of the sofa make sense. I also love that the navy doesn’t really compete with the black walls. It just works!
I knew I wanted a wood coffee table to warm up the sleek black room, so I brought back an oldie but goodie that we had in our basement. This is about ten years old from World Market. I had it in here years ago and swapped it for a marble tulip table when I was feeling a mid-century vibe. Typically I give furniture to family or I’ll try to sell it, but I held on to this wood table because I loved it so much. I’m so happy to find a use for it again. I moved the tulip table to our office, and it’s actually been so great to have in there! Just another homework station for our current at-home learning situation! #quarantined

So here’s the wood coffee table now in the ORC space, and it’s doing exactly what I’d hoped it would do: adds just enough rustic charm to what will otherwise be a modern/sleek space.

Of course I didn’t waste any time starting to style it, even though the rest of the room isn’t close to being done. Lol! Styling is my favorite part. Couldn’t help myself. Plus a Mother’s Day gift arrived and it was like angels started singing when it was set down in its perfect home:

I’ve had my eye on that coffee table book and it was worth every penny! If you’re ever wondering what to buy me as a gift, you can’t go wrong with a coffee table book; especially one filled with gorgeous interiors!
Ok, friends, can we talk about THE MOST AMAZING DELIVERY EVER? Look what arrived from Universal Furniture!

Had to get a little messy before it got beautiful. Lol!

I’m dead! Dead, I say! It’s the Simon Display Cabinet, with beveled glass and metal front doors, and interior lighting!! This will be a dream to style! It was the opposite of a dream to get in the house, but we won’t focus on that. Lol! Let’s just say this is high quality and heavy. So incredibly thankful to Universal Furniture for their sponsorship!

Side note, I bought that vintage trunk at a thrift store last summer and I knew as soon as I measured these cabinets that it would fit up there and be perfect! Needs a good dusting, but it’s beautiful!

Let’s Talk Details…
There’s two small changes made in here that can mostly be appreciated in person, but I wanted to share anyway so that you can see that they’re worth doing in your own home.
- I swapped out the outlet covers for black ones. Wall outlets bug me to begin with- just acne on a wall. But after I painted the room black (Benjamin Moore Jet Black), it took my annoyance with them to a whole new level. So I ordered black ones and it helped a ton! They’re super inexpensive (under $2 each). I didn’t realize they would be so shiny. The matte ones were way more expensive, but in retrospect, I’d probably go with the matte ones. Maybe I still will, we’ll see. Either way, big improvement!

- I replaced our floor vents. They got a little damaged/warped when we replaced our hardwood floors last year, and they weren’t the prettiest. Have you looked at vents recently? There’s actually quite a selection of styles these days! We settled on these…

Ok, friends! That’s the scoop for this week! Fingers crossed next week we start working on the arch trim going on the sofa wall! Here it is in its current state:

I love it all so much Haneen!
Thank you so much, Jewel! Headed to yours shortly!
Wow, it’s looking SO good! I love the dark walls and the rust. The new cabinets are hot!!!! I’m so excited to see how this turns out!
Thank you so much, Rachel! So far, so good!
I love the warmth of the colors in the rug! It really pulls everything together. Coming along beautifully!
Thank you so much! I love the rug too!
This is all so beautiful! I love the rug. The cabinets are so amazing!! The vintage trunk adds the perfect touch.
Thank you so much! Glad you like it! I appreciate you visiting!
Looking so so good! Can’t wait to see it all done!
With regard to the outlet covers, can you just paint them the Jet Black? Maybe a matte clear top coat?
I suppose I could’ve done that! I just wasn’t sure how they’d hold up:)
I buy the pebbles metal, paintable wall plate covers by the case from local electrical supply companies. They can be painted in same as wall color and just disappear. Remember the old days when we thought decorative plates were the bomb?!?! My pet peeve to have your eye drawn to a plate now. 🤷🏻♀️😬
Lol! Yes! So funny. I’ll look into that- those would make more sense.
Those cabinets are insane! So gorgeous!!! And the rug could not be more perfect!
Thank you, Carmel! I’m obsessed with the cabinets! So gorgeous! Thank you for visiting!
Obsessed!!!!!! It’s looking so good. I’m dying to see those shelves with decor 😍
Sarah!! Thank you, friend!! I’m dying to see them with decor too! Lol!
Everything you do always has a sense of beauty and warmth. Can’t wait to see the final revel. Ps can I borrow your brain just for a minute so I can figure out this one wall I’m having a hard time with lol. Channeling my inner Haneen 🤣
Lol! You’re so sweet, thank you!! Feel free to email me a pic of the wall and what you’re struggling with:)
Don’t buy the more expensive covers, buy matte black spray paint. Looks awesome! Cannot wait to see it complete along with the closet. With house full you are getting so much done.! Great job
Thank you so much! I’m trying! Now I feel like I’m falling behind in the closet. Lol! But that’s ok- feels good just to have projects, regardless of timeline!
Love this room, and those cabinets are gorgeous!! You know you can easily swap out the interior of the light switch to black as well. I just did that in my girls room when I painted dark green and, the instructions in the package were super simple to follow. Plus you feel like a boss, lol!! 😘❤️
Omg, I saw that and my mind was blown! I think I was too chicken. Thank you for telling me it was easy! Maybe I’ll go for it!
Great progress! those plates make a big difference and yes I just discovered the matte vs glossy finish too! i may as well switch them out to the matte version.
Love those cabinets and great idea for the trunk to go on top! and a good use of a treasured coffee table … and I am sure it will move around the house over time.
Thank you so much, Tim!
This is definitely becoming one of my favorite spaces. That rug is the perfect choice to ground that gorgeous black wall
Thank you so much, Lindsey! The rug really is so lovely in person!
So fun following along on this space!
I absolutely love this, and that table is amazing! So fun to see your space coming together!
Thank you so much! I’m happy with the progress!
Room is looking great. You could lightly sand or steel wool your outlets and that would take the shine off
Good idea! Thank you!
