New Year, New Room!

Happy New Year, everyone! It’s 2020! How crazy does that sound? I’m starting the year with an opportunity of a lifetime. As you read this, I’m in Hilton Head with Honda to tour the new HGTV Dream Home! Pinching myself for this one. So excited to see this beautiful home in person. And the timing is fabulous… the kids are back at school after two weeks home for winter break. We had many pajama-filled, laid back, fun days. I loved the down time with my kids, but I was excited for them to get back into a routine and for myself to get back to work! This is definitely a great way to kick 2020 into high gear. I’m sure to return fully inspired, which is great because I’m excited to tell you about my first project of the new year!

Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living invited me to join such a fun challenge! It’s the New Year New Room Challenge, and a fun group of bloggers and I will be refreshing a room in our home for a fresh start! Ready to hear what room I’m doing?

The Master Bedroom

So, let’s chat about this choice. I’ve been working on a mood board for our front, brown living room, but I really want to pour my heart and soul into that and feel a bit rushed to have that be the room I’m committing to right now. I’ve also chatted about doing my 10 year old daughter’s bedroom, but again, we need more time to figure out exactly what she wants. That brings us to our master bedroom. For about five years, it’s looked like this…

So, here’s the thing. I’m in Hilton Head, wifi is shotty, and I’m having a hard time finding more photos of my bedroom on my laptop for some odd reason! So here are two shots, but what I want you to gather from those is that it’s very formal and glam. What I want to change for this refresh is just that. I want to remove the fuss and bring in some balance. Some vintage pieces. Some color. Here’s what I’m considering…

Yessssss!!! Are you with me on this? Or am I just in my hotel room jumping up and down all by myself, despite the fact that it’s 2am and I’m exhausted? Lol! The mural is from Fine & Dandy Co, friends, and it’s so beautiful! I really think bringing in a bit of nature will do wonders for this room. That scene is gorgeous! It’s going up this week when I return from Hilton Head!

The other thing that will be changed is the rug. I’m over the shag texture. Loving this vintage-inspired rug from Mohawk!

Ok, so here are the things in question. I could leave it at that and just “refresh” the room, or I could take it a step further. If I’m being honest, our six year old still gets into bed with us, and we have a QUEEN! I’d love to consider getting a king. I will say, however, that I love our canopy bed, so if we do swap for a king, I do still want to consider this same look, but loved the tufted option of this one I found from Home Depot. We’ll see guys. And do I paint the room? So many things to consider! Including a new light! Here are two other lighting options. Which one is your favorite?

This gorgeous option is from Denise McGaha‘s line for Currey & Co.
How about this one? More formal?

Alright, guys. I have more I could say and expand on, but it’s almost 3am and I can’t find the words. Let’s just say, here’s the direction I’m headed and I’m not sure just how far I’ll take this makeover, but I’m excited about where I’m starting. Come back every Tuesday this month for updates! And follow along the rest of the bloggers in this group to see all of their awesome transformations! It’s 2020! Let’s use this fresh start as an opportunity to shake things up in our homes!

I also like the first light option, but how much light does it give off?
What happened to the circular option in your first “what I’m considering” pic? For some reason I feel that would give off the most light, but I know, you know better 🙂

  6. Aa says:

I like the gold and black light fixture

  7. Sarah Sturgis says:

Get a King! We did after my kids got older and I wish I had it for when they were little. You will not regret it. Just make sure the mattress will fit upstairs. Can’t wait to see your process!

  8. Scarlett says:

LOVE the design!!! As far as the light goes, I feel like the black and gold fixture probably “goes” best with the over all design, but I REALLY LOVE that funky white and gold one. You probably can’t go wrong with either of those. The chandy is pretty, but still very glam and formal.

  9. Sirena says:

Love this look! The first light fixture is my favorite. Isn’t the light you currently have up fairly new? Lol. Will you still keep your drapery up on the bed?

    • Haneen says:

Yes! Lol! It’s beautiful! Still love it! Just want to incorporate some gold:) Yes! Going to keep the drapes, I think!

  10. Katie says:

I love the black and gold combo of the first fixture, but I also dig the funky second one. It’s been so fun watching your style transform over the years and I can’t wait to see the end result.

Oh wow! I’m so excited to see this happen.

  14. Donna says:

I like the greens and the mural is very pretty. As for the bed, I like the tufted version of your bed from Home Depot. Now for the light fixture, I’d vote for the first one. (I also really like your current light fixture!!)

  15. Oh my goodness! This looks so awesome. I am loving the green. It will complement the color scheme throughout your home. Can’t wait to see it come together.

  16. Brooke says:

    I. Am. Obsessed.

You are going to knock this out of the park.

  17. Kathryn says:

    Oh it will be smashing!!
