Hello, friends! It’s week number three of the New Year New Room Challenge, and I’ve got a quick DIY for anyone with a vent they may need to camouflage. Here was my project this week. The wall started with this wall stencil, and when I did this stencil years ago, I actually continued it onto the vent…
But this week, as part of giving our bedroom a bit of a refresh, we had this beautiful mural installed…
The wallpaper installer did indeed try to wrap the vent with the mural, but it’s so thick (almost like a vinyl!) it just didn’t work. I coudn’t leave it as is. It wasn’t just a big grey rectangle- the previous stencil pattern was still there!
I had to figure out a way to camouflage it. At the very least, I needed to paint it the color of the rest of the bedroom walls and make it solid so the stencil pattern would disappear, but it saddened me to have this new beautiful mural with an eye sore of a vent. So, while there was no way to get rid of it, I just decided to grab some craft paint and Bob Ross my way to matching the mural!
I took a leftover strip of the mural to the craft store, and opened up different shades of blue, green, grey, brown, and beige to find the best matches I could. Then I just kind of free-handed it, guys. And it worked!
Yes, it’s very clearly still a vent, but it’s much improved! Mission accomplished!
Now, in the meantime, the other update this week I wanted to show you is the rug that arrived for this room from Mohawk!
Isn’t it so beautiful?! I was so excited to replace the shag rug with something vintage inspired and SUPER soft underfoot! I’m thrilled with it. I was slightly nervous at first that it was more brown in person than I realized and I wasn’t sure how that would look with my cooler, charcoal order valium online legal walls, but I do really think once we put it under the bed and stepped back, it all makes sense with the mural.
Some changes…
So, I wanted to show you a couple of changes I made! First of all… THE CHAIRS. On the previous mood board, I shared a beautiful curved green love seat. I’ll be honest. That’s what I really wanted. But I started to get super nervous because although the color looked right online, they named it “lime green.” Yikes! I didn’t want to take the chance that it would show up and be a super loud green. The mural isn’t quite as saturated as I initially thought, so the greens aren’t very prominent and I’m just not sure a green piece would make sense in front of it now. Sooooo… I found these beautiful ivory chairs and thought, ya know what? These feel like a breath of fresh air. And I went for it! Yes, ivory seems dangerous with four kids, but it’s our bedroom- not the kitchen. I’m thinking we should be fine.
The other thing I made a last minute switch with is the nightstands. After the rug came in, the other nightstands I picked out seemed too red of a brown. I was so excited I came across these! I actually like this style better! Just beautiful. Super excited for these pieces to come in!
