Foyer Update: Repainted the Stripes!

Ok, friends! This update was so FUN! So, a few years ago I painted these grey and black stripes to match this chair:

You can read all about how I did that HERE. Well, I recently came across some amazing new finds to style our entry with, and it inspired a little change. Found this rug from Bobby Berk’s new line with Karastan Rugs, and I loved how the angular stripes mimic the stripes I painted in the foyer!

Only problem? The rug is cream and black instead of grey and black, so I busted out the Frog Tape® again and got to work!

I used the tape that’s .94 inches wide- same exact width as the stripes. It was as easy as covering the black stripes and filling in with an ivory/tan that matched the rug. (I used Sherwin Williams Portico) Frog Tape® always leaves the sharpest lines for me! I never do a project without it.

Best tips for using Frog Tape®? Peel away at a 45 degree angle, and it’s best to do it while the paint is still slightly wet! Also, if you’re ever dealing with sensitive surfaces (like say you need to tape off a wood floor or on top of wallpaper or on something that’s dry but was freshly painted) use the yellow tape! That’s for sensitive surfaces and specifically made to be safe for these situations! You can see here, I used the yellow tape on top of other stripes I painted before moving on… (Pardon the quality- I had to take a screenshot of a video because I completely forgot to photograph this stage while working!)

A closer look at the stying…

I posted a reel giving a sneak peek at this corner that currently has over half a million views with a lot of questions about the table. I chose it because I LOVE the arched cubbies. Really speaks to all the other arches we have in our 2000 built home. Sadly, I can’t link it. It’s from a company called Blue Ocean Traders and you have to have a trade account with them to purchase. They also don’t ship to residential addresses. You need to have some sort of warehouse to ship it to! Your best bet is to find a local interior designer who has a trade account with them and can have it shipped to a warehouse they use. Then you can either pay to have it delivered from there or you can pick it up. It’s a bit of a production, but worth it! Everything else is linked below!

Haneen, I am mesmerised! This is the most artful use of space. Stunning.

I’ve really been trying to rack my brain as to why exactly this is so appealing to me and others, and I think it’s the juxtaposition between the old world charm of the table with its warm wood tones, simple organic shapes and handcrafted antique feel, and the modern and busy sharpness of the stripes on the wall with their cool colors and ‘new’ feel. I’ve been prompting myself to articulate why I think a space is stunning so that I can replicate the impact without copying the space detail by detail. I hope this comment is useful for future readers.
